Welcome to Nin

Nin ,the first capital of Croatia, once a centre of religious, political and cultural life, is now a small town with incredible historical heritage. A 3000 –year old town of Nin is located on a small island in the middle of the lagoon. You can enter the town over two 16th – century bridges. It was founded by an Illyrian tribe the Liburni in the 9th century BC under the name of Aenona which is proven by numerous archaeological findings. Nin is also the oldest Croatian king’s town. It was the capital of many Croatian people’s rulers. Nin was a diocese in the period from 9 to 19 century and one of the most prominent bishops is Grgur Ninski, a fighter for preservation of Croatian national alphabet glagoljica.
